Learn about Kinross’ community work in Chile this year

From scholarships to concerts, it’s been a busy year in the local community for our Chile operations.

This year, Kinross Chile awarded 163 scholarships and donated 14 computers to the local Colla indigenous community.

The scholarships, which have been awarded every year since 2008, help cover not only the cost of tuition, but also school supplies and uniforms for elementary and high school Colla students. There was a record number of scholarship recipients this year and included students as young as four.

Throughout 2016, Kinross Chile also brought the community together by hosting three concerts that had more than three thousand people in attendance.

Spirits were high as Copiapó welcomed rock and pop bands, including the popular Chilean folk group Germain de la Fuente, who had not performed in the region for 12 years.

“We want to be a good neighbour, bring the community together, and leave lasting impacts for future success. Education is one important way to do that,” said José Tomás Letelier, Vice-President of Government Affairs, Chile. “It was also nice to bring so many people together and foster a sense of community at the concerts this year.”
