Kinross Chirano sponsors small business program

Thirty-two local community members in Chirano recently graduated from Kinross’ alternative livelihood program that teaches participants skills to develop and maintain small businesses.

The two-week intensive program consists of development courses including classroom workshops, situational analysis, and small business management skills. At the end of their training, participants were provided with funds and equipment to help launch their businesses.

A graduation ceremony was hosted at the end of March by Adriano Sobreira, Vice-President and General Manager, Chirano, who presented the recipients with certificates for completing the course, and spoke on the success of the program and its graduates.

“The alternative livelihood program has been successful in helping community members develop skills to start small businesses that support their families,” said Adriano. “At Kinross, we are committed to benefiting the local economy surrounding our operations. We hope this program will help you continue to build your businesses and become role models to community members.”

The alternative livelihood program is solely sponsored by Kinross Chirano and works in partnership with the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI).
