Kinross Chirano donates multi-purpose computer lab and library

Kinross Chirano recently donated a multi-purpose Information and Communications Technology (ICT) centre to the Sefwi-Wiawso community in Ghana. The donation is part of a series of educational contributions to the communities surrounding the mine.

The $220,000 USD facility will serve as a library and a laboratory with 30 computers in the ICT centre. The primary goal of the centre is to provide local people with the skills and resources to develop both their education and occupation outlook.

Adriano Sobreira, Vice-President and General Manager, Chirano, attended an opening ceremony for the facility last month and spoke at the event on Kinross’ commitment to supporting the community and its development.

“Over the last few years Kinross has built eight schools and nine ICT centres in communities surrounding the mine,” said Adriano. “We hope to impart a positive legacy on the community with scholarship opportunities that will provide quality educational resources and infrastructure, benefiting our neighbours for years to come.”
