Kettle River-Buckhorn receives U.S. national safety award, marks four years without a LTI

Kettle River-Buckhorn (KRB) has received the Sentinels of Safety Certificate of Achievement in Safety award from the National Mining Association of the United States (U.S.) for its outstanding performance among large underground metal mines.

The award, which KRB received in October, recognizes the top five mines in the U.S. that have met detailed safety criteria that includes employment data reporting, no Lost Time Injuries (LTI) and the accumulation of at least 4,000 employee hours over the calendar year.

The accomplishment builds on KRB’s milestone of four years without a LTI. The award comes after Round Mountain was recognized in September by the Nevada Mining Association as the ‘Safest Mine in Nevada'.

“This national recognition and reaching four years without a LTI is a testament to the hard work that everyone puts in to ensure that we all get home safely,” said Ernie Miranda, Health & Safety Manager, Kettle River-Buckhorn.

The award was created in 1925 by Former U.S. President Herbert Hoover, who was Secretary of Commerce at the time and a trained mining engineer.
