Last month, Lauren Roberts, Chief Operating Officer and Paul Tomory, Chief Technical Officer, visited Chile to discuss strategy and the La Coipa Restart and Lobo Marte projects with the Chile team.
In August, Kinross announced that it was proceeding with a feasibility study at the La Coipa Restart project and a scoping study at Lobo Marte as it continues to evaluate the potential for a return to production in Chile.
The feasibility study will contemplate refurbishments of the existing plant and infrastructure and processing of high-grade material from the Phase 7 deposit and the scoping study will assess the potential for a production start at Lobo Marte at the end of La Coipa’s mine life. Both studies will also assess the potential to share resources and leverage synergies between the projects.
“Our technical experts from the Toronto office are working alongside the local Chilean team as we evaluate both projects,” said Lauren Roberts, Chief Operating Officer. “There is a lot of energy and enthusiasm as the teams share ideas to progress both projects.”
Technical, Permitting, Geology and Mine Planning teams worked together to define roles and responsibilities, and to create a detailed work plan, to ensure all team members are prepared as the project studies progress.
“We are confident in our team in Chile, they have faced challenges over the last few years and have overcome them to further develop the projects,” said Paul Tomory, Chief Technical Officer. “One of the main reasons we continue to invest in Chile is due to the strength of our local team and we look forward to working with them as we develop these studies.”
