Ambassadors and Dignitaries Visit Chirano

On March 17th and 18th, high-ranking diplomats from the US, Canada and Australia toured our Chirano operation to see mining operations and processes firsthand, and to learn more about our local corporate responsibility and community-related initiatives.

The group included Christopher Thornley (Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana), Gene Cretz (US Ambassador to Ghana), Gordon Chakaodza (Australian Trade Commissioner), Zainabu Williams (US Vice-Consul), and Matthieu Kimmell (Political Counsellor for the Canadian High Commission in Ghana).

The delegation visited the Paboase underground mine, and watched a gold pour. Later in the day, they attended a reception hosted by Vice-President & General Manager Ken Norris and his wife Gisele, at their home. Our Chirano Finance, Exploration, Continuous Improvement, Human Resources and Community Relations Managers were invited to attend the reception – along with prominent local Chiefs, and the Chairman of the Community Consultative Committee (CCC) of the mine.

“We feel honoured to have visited and witnessed active mining, including an underground operation, to have seen some of your Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, and to be hosted by the General Manager and his wife,” said Christopher Thornley following the event. “We pledge to tell your stories wherever we are.”
